July 2022

High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF)

The High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) in July 2022 under the auspices of the Economic and Social Council called for the Summit to “Mark the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals .”

SECRETARY GENERAL'S REPORT

"Progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals: Towards a Rescue Plan for People and Planet"

In this report the Secretary-General urged world leaders to come together at the SDG Summit to deliver a Rescue Plan for People and Planet centred around three major breakthroughs: 1) Equipping governance and institutions for sustainable and inclusive transformation. 2) Prioritizing policies and investments that have multiplier effects across the goals. 3) Securing a surge in SDG financing and an enabling global environment for developing countries.

We believe it is critical that part of this "Rescue Plan for People and Planet" include a virtues-based approach to "mark the beginning of a new phase of accelerated progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals."

At this pivotal midpoint of our SDG journey, a strategic shift is paramount. Beyond actions, we need transformation. By infusing virtues into our approach, we catalyze innovation and amplify results. Let's harness this tactical transformation to drive impactful change towards our shared goals.

Empower Change Through Shared Virtues

WHY A VIRTUES-BASED POLITICAL DECREE?

Our mission is clear: we believe that by integrating a set of shared virtues into the political decree, we can inspire powerful, positive change that resonates across the globe.

The 2023 SDG Summit stands as a beacon of opportunity for Heads of State and Government to assess our progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). At this pivotal moment, we aim to introduce a virtues-based approach that transcends boundaries, cultures, and traditions, echoing the aspirations of diverse societies worldwide.

In our collective journey, we acknowledge the profound impact of virtues such as compassion, courage, cooperation, and empathy.
